Rubbish

My dog, Isis, is one of the biggest blessings of my life, in many regards. I am forced to get out of the house, regardless of the day of the week, or the weather, and we get to walk and explore my neighborhood(s) and beyond. I can probably write an entire little novel just about things I've run into while walking around with Isis...
One of the "privileges" of walking around is that we certainly run into piles of "stuff" abandoned to the curbs of the streets of New York: furniture, appliances, books, magazines, the list is endless. There is no place in the world where the saying "someone's garbage, is someone elses's treasure" bears more true, literally, than New York City. At first New York move, within Midtown area, I was shocked to watch how nicely dressed ladies getting out of work, were stopping to browse through the pile of fashion magazines I had just placed at the curb. Well, today, I am one of them. If something catches my attention I will stop, regardless that I am wearing a t-shirt and a pajama  walking Isis, or I am in the middle of the city, spiffy  dressed. And I am very proud of it. It will be an act of extravagant stupidity (and you all know how much I detest the lack of common sense) to just walk away  of a leather bounded, antique book which meant nothing to someone, let's say.

Here is a little story, but I have a few of those...

Couple of years ago I needed a male mannequin. I went  to a fashion school, remember? But, because my major was not designing, I didn't nor couldn't invest a $300+ in a better than average one. I searched Ebay, Craigslist, everything. Any time an affordable one will "show up" will be snatched as a hot bread. Eventually I found one on Ebay, located somewhere in Dallas. It was for sale at the unbelievable $39 because it was a tailor form, but the stand was missing. I bought it. I got it, really quick, too. Thank you, Debbie. Both parties were happy.

Then, exactly on the same week, I am walking Isis, and being a Friday night (busy moving night) I noticed that  someone abandoned a lamp. Precisely, just the stand of the lamp, and parts of it. That was exactly what I needed for my mannequin! Now, here is a photo of it as it looks today.

Conclusion: Please don't walk away when something valuable to you  has been abandoned by someone else. There is a popular philosophy, sadly, that "if it is not good for him/her, it's not good for me, either".... That's rubbish!!
